Ginger's Groovy Goods
What inspired you to start your vintage shop/boutique?
Without a doubt, my parents are the initial inspiration for my love of precious old things. When my sister and I were very young, our parents packed us up in our Ford truck and camper and we would drive across the county hunting treasures. We would go on these adventures two or three times a year. I still have the very first thing I ever got to "buy on my own", which is an old tin box filled with sewing notions, black beaded lace and other fun bits and bobs.
How long have you been in business, and how has your shop evolved over time?
This should be such an easy question to answer, but for me, it is not. The quickest answer is: I have had an official business and resale license since 2006 and have been more focused on selling vintage for the last two years on Instagram. This whole *Vintage Extravaganza* has evolved tremendously over the last few years. We started out by holding yard sales, then that turned into pop-ups, then that turned into having a space in a collective, then that turned into sharing a warehouse and then miraculously that turned into us occupying the whole entire space... called *The Wherehouse*.
What types of vintage items do you carry?
We have a little bit of everything because I have always admired the old mercantiles who had to have... a little bit of everything!! Today we have: vintage furniture, antiques, repurposed home decor, MCM, jewelry, clothes, tools, paintings, collectibles, glass, garden goodies, lamps, chandeliers, signage, Tonka Trucks, wrought iron, one-of-a-kind treasures and everything in between. The reason I say "today" is because our inventory changes on a daily basis... I never know what is going to show up next.
How do you source your vintage pieces? Do you have a favorite story behind a special find?
I have always thought "sourcing" is a funny word or term because it sounds so "business like". Simply put, we are always on the hunt for interesting and groovy things... although lately wonderful things have been finding their way to us.
Are there any rare or unique items currently in your collection?
We definitely have some very old and unique items. Just last week we found a fantastic 8' windmill that has a gorgeous horse piece attached and I have never seen anything like it before in my life.
Do you offer any special services, such as styling assistance or custom restorations?
We can help with just about anything somebody may need or want, I always say... Please just ask.
Can shoppers purchase items online, or is everything sold in-store?
Yes, we are happy to ship anything to anyone anywhere in the world and just to be clear... shipping costs are an additional fee.
Do you host events, workshops, or pop-ups?
Not yet, but we plan to add these kinds of fun events sometime later this year.
Any fun or memorable experiences with customers you’d like to share?
I don't have one specific moment, but I always like to surprise customers with items that cost *zero*!! We are always giving away free things and seeing their faces when I say "It's free, take it", is priceless every single time!!
